Bay of Islands Hockey Club

Bay of Island Hockey began in 1947 when life member Phyllis Byers (known as Chippy) bought the game to life in Kaikohe. Soil taken from the family farm was used to fill in the old quarry to form the current playing fields at Lindvart Park. Hockey is strong in the north and is now experiencing the wonderful game of hockey on its turf established in 2008. For the last 15 years, the baton for looking after Hockey was passed from Phyllis to her daughter Suzee. With the bit between her teeth, Suzee worked night and day to get the funds raised for new LED lights for their Hockey community ”

Achieving Optimal Illumination.

The first objective was to get the lighting upgraded so the problematic dark areas in the center of the pitch could be eliminated. The second objective was to provide some illumination for the Kaikohe Football Club, which has never previously had any lights to train under. As the previously installed halides had been wired for training as well as game level we were able to provide a solution that allowed for both Hockey and football. Additionally, with careful aiming the dark areas in the center of the pitch are only a fading memory.

The first thing our players noticed when the lights were turned on was the reappearance of their four shadows – long faded to memory from when the halides were initially installed. The lights are bright – It is a great result.
