Macleans College is one of New Zealand’s largest schools catering to over 2,500 students a year. The school has a strong extra-curricular program that includes 21 different sports and the facilities to support them.
An upgrade to a world-class pitch lighting
The field was originally built, and lit via six 15m poles, in the 1990s as a multipurpose synthetic surface catering for netball, tennis, and hockey. In 2005, the field was extended by 15m at one end to accommodate a full-sized hockey field however no additional poles were added. In 2020, the park was upgraded again to a dedicated FIH Global hockey pitch. The challenge here was introducing as much lighting as possible without overloading the existing poles. With the use of various focus angles, Lumosa delivered a consistent lighting solution to match the world-class pitch. The lighting installation involved the removal of the old metal halides, replacing those cross arms showing corrosion, and fitting the new Lumosa LEDs.
A challenging project for us where new poles were simply not in the budget. We had to find a solution that utilized the existing infrastructure but lit the full field including the southern end where there were no poles conveniently located. We found that solution thanks to the team at Lumosa.”
